Donald Trump and HKICPA

I wanted to write this article for quite a while after I watched 'The Apprentice' a couple of weeks ago but I was ill for quite a while and was too busy at work (and 'm still v busy). Yet I feel that I really need to write something to re-activate my brain after recovered from illness.

In Hong Kong, 'The Apprentice' was sponsored by the HKICPA and they have a very strange (and arrogant) ad in with it.

'You are fired' is the punch line of this programme and the association used this in the ad. A panel of people who look like professionals (assumed to be HKCPAs), speaking fluent English with no Cantonese accent (and some Westerners in between) by the table which looks v alike the one in 'The Apprentice' where Mr Trump used to sit with his team members to judge whether the candidate would be kicked out and they'd just say 'You are fired'.

Back to the ad, a person who looks like Mr Trump enters into that room, and that panel of people asked him a lot of questions and the most notable is 'Are you a CPA (or similar wordings which I couldn't clearly recall)?' and the answer was 'No'. Then they said 'You are fired' and it seems that it wants to say even though it is as famous and wealthy as Donald Trump he still would be fired if he doesn't have a CPA qualification.

I'm just wondering how ridiculous it is:
  • If I have as much money as Mr Trump does, why do I need a CPA qualification?
  • It seems that if I have a lot of money, I'd still fear about being fired 'cos I'm not qualified as a CPA - Mr Trump worries about being fired - is he a salaried man?
  • If I got a CPA qualification, would my fate end at being a salaried man?
Certainly its not a convincing ad. I just wonder how come the marketing persons of HKICPA would allow this kind of ad to be broadcasted. Maybe in the deepest of their mind, they are satisifed to be salaried men... or some senior slaves?

In fact, accountant is a profession closely related to money and business. I would say always the main goal of doing business is to earn money. If I'd prefer CPA and the amount of wealth Mr Trump has, what is it? It is 本末倒置.
